About John.
John has spent his whole life at the pool .During his school years he spent 10 years in the pool training up to national age group finals level , competed in surf life saving ,swam open water swims of over 15 k’s and even played and coached water polo.
On Leaving school John came to Lower Hutt and starting coaching at NaeNae pool under the direction of Tony Keenan ,Coach of Commonwealth gold medalist Rebecca Perrot .
After more that twenty years John still works at the pool as co-manager for Swimzone. Over these years John has focused on developing stokes and fitness for the swimmers of Lower Hutt, from the beginner level swimmers to national champions .He has also coached many tri-athletes, open water swimmers and water polo swimmers to success as well.
Session Overviews
The assessment . I will check your current technique and fitness levels from which point I can appraise what level you are at. I can then set goals and plan sessions that will benefit your improvement. Areas of the assessment will be a swim test and Kick test . The assessment will probably include a small work out or some basic stroke help.
From this I can discuss with you a plan of action, whether it be for one session or book in for 5 five lesson block course . Most workout sessions will contain drills that are designed to help fix up your stroke and aid with fitness improvement.
After 4-5 sessions you should be able to go on and work on your own with a better understanding of how train properly. Guidance and advice will be given for your future workouts.
After this some swimmer may choose to come in occasionally for a the 30 minute work out or even the 45 minute work out.
Recommendations
I would recommend a minimum block of 5 sessions to gain the best results. It takes time to make some changes and is much easier under the watchful eye of the coach . The first 3 should be completed close together . Then the next two sessions can spread out more to give some time to practice the skills that you have learnt. After this we can discuss what course of action should be taken next
